Never was the maxim "many hands make light work" more true than when setting up a boxed book fair.

1. Prepare the room in advance with about 12-15 tables spread around the room. If you have ordered 4 display boards (fee $10.00), reduce that number by 4-5.

2. Designate areas for each major section. The ratios in the illustration above are about right for a Kindergarten to Grade 8 (or 6) school. At a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school the book fair is lighter in the Grade 6 to 8 section, and in a Grade 6 to 8 school the Kindergarten to Grade 2 section is lighter. The boxes are stickered as follows:

3. Have one full class carry in the book fair, and deliver the boxes to the area preselected for that section.  This takes only 1 or 2 trips per student, and takes no more than 3 minutes.

4. Send all but 12 students back to class and if you have ordered display boards ($10.00 per set of 4), divide the remaining students into groups of 3 to set them up. 

5. Have these same groups begin placing the books on the display boards overlapping where possible. When the boards are full have them continue onto the tables.

6. Continue until all of the books are out, or all of the tables are filled.  This should take no more than 35 minutes.  As this process ends, some tables or students may be redeployed where needed. (If you wish to group books by author or theme, do this after the book fair is set up and you know what you have.)

7. When the book fair is over have the same students pack the remaining books into boxes (flat to avoid damaging the books), and take apart the display boards.  Please put the bolts back into the legs.  This takes half as long as the setup.

8. When the driver arrives, have one full class carry the book fair back to the truck. 

Please remove the bolts and leave in leg holes when done.
